Mike Fan is a Canadian classical baritone and pianist with an active schedule as a performer, accompanist, music teacher and tutor. Mike holds an A.R.C.T. degree in Piano Performance and a Grade 10 Certificate in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music and an Honours Bachelor’s with Distinction in Biomedical Science from the University of Guelph.
As a vocalist, Mike’s repertoire encompasses opera arias and songs in six languages. Mike’s warm lyric baritone has won the Gold Medal in Grade 10 Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music and first place prizes at the 2014 NATS Regional Competition and Kiwanis Music Festival. Recently, he was selected to sing in a masterclass conducted by Kristine Dandavino. Career highlights include performances at the 2015 GCCCA Chinese New Year Gala, concerts with the Guelph Symphony Orchestra and workshops with the Canadian Opera Company. Between 2013-2015, Mike created and hosted Opera@Guelph, a monthly opera series at the University of Guelph which presented 11 operas in five languages. Future engagements include the Guelph Multicultural Festival in June 2015.
As a pianist, Mike’s performance highlights include chamber music with the Arthur Leblanc Quartet at the Kincardine Summer Music Festival, music therapy at the St. Joseph’s Health Centre and Elliott Community, and masterclasses with James Anagnoson, Dr. Thomas Green, and other renowned pedagogues and pianists. Mike was a recipient of numerous Kiwanis Music Festival scholarships in the Senior Piano category and has collaborated with singers, choirs, brass, woodwinds and strings.
Mike is currently completing a second ARCT degree in Voice Perfomance from the Royal Conservatory of Music studying with Tannis Sprott and will continue his classical voice studies at the university level in Septemeber 2015.
